It’s National Dental Hygienist Week! 6 ways to help you celebrate

April 8, 2025
Don't let National Dental Hygienist Week slip by. If you can't round up your fellow RDHs, celebrate on your own. Here's how.
, Chief Editor, RDH magazine

As we recognize National Dental Hygienist Week (NDHW), many of you may receive words of acknowledgement, small gifts of appreciation, or even a big surprise from your fellow team members. Good for them!

But many people are not even aware that it’s NDHW, or that there’s a recognition week at all. So, many dental hygienists may not receive anything other than self-appreciation. But don’t let that dampen your celebratory mood.

Do something on your own for yourself and make it something big if you’re able to. Take the time to celebrate you and your achievements, alone or with your peers. Only your fellow dental hygienists know the time and dedication this profession involves, so we should all be ready to celebrate!

Spoil yourself! Search out your dental hygiene comrades and make a toast to all you do. If this can only be done virtually, then do it! Send us a picture of you toasting with your hygiene friends. Let’s have FUN with our special week and throw our own party and share our celebrations on social media.

6 ways to celebrate National Dental Hygienist Week

  1. Create a social media post that brings attention to NDHW and congratulate and thank all your fellow hygienists for the quality care they provide their patients every day.
  2. Create your own Thank You card and place it in your operatory for your patients and employer to see.
  3. Let your family know you’re celebrating your week and have a pizza night.
  4. Throw your own celebratory party at work and bring cake for the team.
  5. Bring recognition to all you have achieved and hang your national certification and state license on your operatory wall so your patients know you’re a college graduate and have passed national and state licensure requirements.
  6. Lastly, honor yourself by celebrating with some “me time.” Congratulate yourself on how many people’s lives you’ve changed, how many families you’ve kept healthy, and how many loved ones have a better life because of your care.

It is time WE celebrate who WE are, what WE represent, and HOW our certifications and licensures change lives. Happy National Dental Hygienist Week. I’m very proud to be part of our fine profession and meet so many dedicated dental hygienists!
