Dear RDH:

Perry Ratcliff and Trisha O`Hehir`s article, "A Risk to Expectant Mothers?" was another one of RDH`s fine articles. I`d like to thank you for this valuable information. I plan to initiate a local campaign to educate expectant mothers with this information.

Also in the April 1997 issue was the Dialogue article that prompted me to write. As a member of ADHA, I seize the many opportunities afforded me to attend the national and local meetings. At these events, companies show their support for dental hygienists by sponsoring continuing-education courses, sending representatives, and distributing product samples.

There are other opportunities to learn about new products and innovations via journals and mailings. Hygienists can easily be exposed to what`s new by seeking the networking benefits their association provides. Even the editor of RDH has seen the importance of attending dental hygiene meetings. I know patients appreciate informed health-care providers, and I feel that it is a responsibility to keep abreast of what is offered, what is claimed, and what is test-proven effective in consumer products.
