2 The magazine’s 20th anniversary was noted in the January 2001 issue with an article about some of the colorful articles and dental hygienists associated with the magazine during the first 20 years.

Thepencil is mightier than the sword
3 Shirley Gutkowski began her provocative Thinking Sharply columns in mid-2001, and Karen Kaiser’s (who later became the Hygiene Touch columnist) pencil in the October 2001 issue was the centerpiece of an article about dental fraud and risk management.

4 The RDH Under One Roof conference started in summer 2001 with a modest beginning in Denver. By 2002, the conference began to grow as the editor touted it as a place to meet writers, and a logo was created.
Distinctive
5 Sunstar Butler teamed up with RDH to recognize eight distinctive hygienists. The first recipients of the Healthy Gums. Healthy Life. Award of Distinction were honored in the September 2002 issue.
A taste for writing
6 Dr. Sheri Doniger wrote about carbonated sodas in the October 2002 issue, and kept on writing feature after feature until she became the editor of Woman Dentist Journal in late 2005. Ann-Marie DePalma started her monthly review of continuing education presenters in the From the Podium column, which started in August 2002 issue.
