RDH Clinical Recognition Program: Lucy Crawford

Sept. 23, 2024
Lucy Crawford likes to say that dental hygiene found her. She became a dental assistant when she moved to the US from Brazil, and discovered that she liked dentistry. Her hygiene career has soared.

Lucy Crawford moved to the United States armed with a degree in psychology, but actually landed in the dental profession as an assistant. For four years she took the courses necessary to become a dental hygienist and discovered she absolutely loved the profession.

“My passion for dental hygiene is so much bigger than me,” she says. “I love seeing my patients and getting to know them, and I love to educate them about the link between their oral and overall health.”

Education is key, she says. When patients present with a problem, she helps them find out what could have caused the problem, how to treat it, and how to prevent recurrence in the future. Like so many of her peers, Lucy loves to make an impact in her patients’ lives and help keep them healthy.

When it comes to advice, Lucy tells her peers to network and mentor. Find people to connect with and learn from so that no one feels alone.
