Pac-Dent’s line of disposable air/water syringe tips

June 1, 2024
Reusable syringe tips no longer meet IC standards in the dental practice. Pac-Dent has a line of disposable tips that are the perfect solution.

Metal air/water syringe tips have been a staple of the operatory since the introduction of dental unit waterlines, and are simple, dependable, and inexpensive. Unfortunately, recent research has proven that they pose a significant danger to patients. A 2014 study found that despite frequent sterilization, reusable syringe tips contain an alarming amount of corroded metal debris and microbial sludge.1 Bacterial contamination in nondisposable syringes was significantly greater than in disposable ones, even with frequent flushing. In another study, the lumen surfaces inside metal air/water syringe tips were evaluated with an electron microscope and were found to have a rough texture that accumulated a significant amount of hard mineral buildup and “bioburden deposits.”As often as dental unit waterlines are used, these findings present a major problem in infection control.

In recognizing this issue, Pac-Dent offers a line of next-level disposable air/water syringe tips. Made to adapt to virtually any style of syringe, dental professionals will find these replacements for their existing metal tips to be reliable, simple, and safe.

The TruTip Plus Colors air/water syringe tip features a groove at the base that allows it to securely lock into place without damaging the syringe o-ring. With a five-core air design, the clinician can rely on even airflow and effective drying power. This disposable tip is made with a stainless-steel interior housed in a plastic exterior that is ideal for cheek and tongue retraction.

The NeoTip air/water syringe tip also includes a built-in groove to aid in a snug fit, with a slightly beveled edge for patient comfort. What differentiates this disposable tip from the TruTip Plus Colors tip is the replacement of the stainless-steel interior with a plastic interior. This is an ideal tip for clinicians who prefer a gentle flex with their air/water use.

The SureTight tip is slightly wider in diameter, adding durability and strength for tissue retraction. Free of locking grooves, this disposable air/water tip securely seals with the syringe o-ring and features a smoothly rounded edge for extreme patient comfort. Also designed with the five-core air technology, air and water always remain separated.

The Armor air/water syringe tip and sleeve combo is another option for clinicians who prioritize infection control. This disposable, quad air-core tip comes with a built-in, single-use sleeve that covers the syringe handle. The material is gently textured to prevent slipping and aids in efficient equipment handling. Many practitioners prefer this configuration as opposed to using sticky barrier tape that lacks complete coverage and is difficult to remove.

Dentistry’s traditional tools and techniques are evolving in response to recent scientific research. Despite the practice’s best intentions, metal air/water syringe tips have become substandard. Pac-Dent offers a simple, affordable, responsible solution with its line of disposable tips—elevating the standard of care.
