Each week the RDH PIRA (Patient Impact & Rise Above) recognition program, sponsored by Water Pik, Inc., features a dental hygiene clinician who excels in his or her role and goes the extra mile. The past two and a half years have been a challenge for many clinicians and as we return to the operatory, we want to acknowledge those who provide patient care—clinicians who are changing their patients’ lives, influencing their patients’ health, and making a difference every day. This week we honor Corina Layton, RDH.
"I’ve learned that there’s a huge lack about dental knowledge in the general community. People don’t understand what to or what not to do. They believe what the next influencer or next celebrity tells them. With that, I took to social media and began to share my life as a dental hygienist, but and also fun dental facts. This has given me a platform of now 2.3 million people who I can help educate, and has also opened doors for speaking engagements. I feel beyond blessed for my platform I always say that if I am able to educate at least one person with each TikTok, post, or workday, then I am doing my job."

"The epitome of strength and achievement"
Corina grew up in Alaska and chose a hygiene career because it seemed like a good choice for wanting a family in the future and for financial security—"And in the end,” she says, “I fell in love with dental hygiene!”
She has an associate's degree and projects to complete her bachelor's in dental hygiene (BSDH) in spring 2023; she hopes to be able to be an instructor or some form of educator as she moves through her career. She’s attended dental conferences as a key opinion leader (KOI) for incoming dental brands and in her free time, she enjoys going on road trips and hiking.
Visit the PIRA website to nominate someone today! Good luck, and we look forward to hearing from many outstanding and qualified colleagues!
