Like many of her RDH peers, Chrissy Harlow began her career as a dental assistant while waiting to get into dental hygiene school. She’s been a hygienist for 21 years and says she’s moved around a lot to find a good office fit.
What makes an office a good one for Chrissy? She enjoys working in an office where everyone is working toward the same goal: good patient care. They’re not money-driven but people driven (though she realizes that dental practices are a business that need a strong income).
In her current office, everyone works well together and they’re a true team where they help each other, no matter the job. This says a lot about the strong leadership of a dental practice.
During her career journey, Chrissy has discovered that she loves to learn, loves new innovations, and enjoys sharing her knowledge with others. She’s become a teacher for dental hygiene students, and she also teaches her patients regularly, like any good dental hygienist. She says it’s satisfying to see someone grasp a new concept.
Chrissy stresses the importance of attending dental hygiene events so that you connect with fellow RDHs and never feel alone. Support is always close by if you make the effort.
