“Even though we have always been extremely close, we never planned to work in the same field. That just fell into place over the years.”
After high school, Marsha married her husband, Larry, and chose a career in cosmetology. Their only child, Amy, grew up with the daydreams of being a dentist or orthodontist after experiencing routine dental exams and braces.
While Amy was in high school, Marsha began working as the office manager at a dental practice. During her senior year, Amy joined a co-op program and worked as an assistant in a dental office, which led her to decide on dental hygiene as her career.
When mother and daughter began researching dental hygiene colleges, Marsha realized that she, too, was interested in dental hygiene. They both applied and were accepted for the dental hygiene program at Meridian Community College.
“We were the first mother/daughter team to attend at the same time,” Amy said. “We shared an apartment in Meridian. Even today, we continue to attend continuing education classes together and we love what we do.”
Amy works at a dental office in Gulfport. Marsha currently provides temporary services along the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
